THE PLANT SPACING WORKBENCH
Give every plant its place.
Turn the spacing on your seed packet into a measured planting layout.
01Your planting area
Rows run along the length. Rotating can change the count when plant and row spacing differ.
02Spacing from your seed packet
All spacing is centre to centre. Edge margin is measured from wall to plant centre. The grid is centred, so actual margins may be larger.
Use the final spacing for your variety and growing method. Seed sowing distance and final plant spacing can differ after thinning.
YOUR PLANTING LAYOUT
My planting layout
12 in between plants · 12 in between rows · at least 6 in from the edge
What this plan includes
An evenly spaced rectangular grid for one set of spacing values. Markers represent planting centres, not mature plant size. Paths, supports, companion planting and expected harvest are not included.
Plants per row = floor((length − 2 × edge) ÷ plant spacing) + 1. Rows use the same calculation with width and row spacing. If either dimension cannot fit the edge margins, the count is zero.
